Learning Experience of Current Students
Sharing on Learning experience as a Biology Student

“The biology programme supports students in reaching their goals across various areas. For me, the curriculum offers courses in different branches of biology, from evolution and genetics to ecology and biodiversity, complemented by field trips to different ecosystems in Hong Kong, allowing students to explore their interest in biology. The course provides a strong knowledge base for me to face future challenges. Besides classes, I have received invaluable support and mentorship from faculty members through research opportunities and an overseas exchange programme, the University Student Sponsorship Programme (USSP). The training and experience I have gained in the biology programme have sharpened my research skills and passion for scientific research and established a solid foundation for me to pursue my goal of becoming a biologist.” |

“The CUHK Biology programme has exceeded my expectations by providing a solid foundation in biological sciences and exposing me to a wide range of topics. Learning was extended beyond the classroom through field trips, laboratories, peer tutoring and interactive lectures using tools like Kahoot! and uReply. Teachers were approachable and passionate. They actively gathered feedback to cater for individual learning needs. I am grateful for the support I received from professors who genuinely cared about our growth. The programme equipped us with essential skills in literature research, experimental design, data analysis and manuscript-style reporting, preparing us for future careers in research. We were encouraged to take an active role in our learning, which helped us become more independent and reflective learners. Thanks to the School’s keen promotion of opportunities, I joined a rewarding 10-month internship at the Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium, where I experienced the daily operation of a herbarium and learnt to identify 200 plant species. I also served as a Senior Student Tutor, supporting my peers academically. The flexible curriculum even allowed me to pursue a minor in Japanese Language. I am deeply thankful for this enriching journey.” |
