International Conference on Quality Control, Authentication and Conservation of Herbal Material and Products

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin R&D Centre for Chinese Medicine, the Centre and co-organisers School of Chinese Medicine, School of Life Sciences, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and HerBChain (Charity) Ltd. hosted the “International Conference on Quality Control, Authentication and Conservation of Herbal Material and Products” from 8th to 10th December. The event was supported by Chung Chi College and Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute, Department of Health, HKSAR.
The conference focused on emerging research and technological advances in herbal material authentication, conservation, and quality evaluation. This landmark event brought together over 30 esteemed experts in the field and 140 participants from 14 countries or regions worldwide, including Chinese Mainland, Macau SAR, USA, Germany, Korea, Thailand and India. Keynote speakers included distinguished global leaders: Professor Thomas Efferth (Johannes Gutenberg University, Germany), Professor Ikhlas Khan (The University of Mississippi, USA), Dr. Nandakumara D. Sarma (United States Pharmacopeia, USA), Professor Guo Dean and Professor Xu Hongxi (both from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Mainland). Attendees represented over academic, regulatory and industrial organisations, underscoring the Centre’s international influence and commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration. Altogether, 32 talks and 16 posters were presented.
Highlights of the conference include the latest technologies in the authentication and quality control of medicinal material and products, the issues and regulations of products in the market, the addition of values to the wastes of medicinal material, and the Blockchain platform for recording growth, manufacturing and sale of medicinal material and products. The event successfully fostered knowledge exchange and collaborative partnerships toward advancing global standards in herbal medicine quality assurance and conservation.
