On 25 March 2026, School of Life Sciences organized the SLS seminar series presented by Professor Hong Zhang, Academicians from Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
Professor Hong Zhang is a leading expert in autophagy field. His laboratory pioneered the use of C. elegans as a genetic model to identify a group of metazoan-specific autophagy genes, known as Epg genes. In the seminar, he gave a historical view how these Epg genes were identified to act at steps unique to the autophagy pathway in multicellular organisms. He also introduced his latest work about dynamic Ca²⁺ signaling in various aspects of autophagy.
