Center of Novel Biomaterials

Mission

In the 20^th century, chemical synthesis was the major driving force for generating new compounds and materials. These chemical compounds could be used for multiple applications including dyes, antibiotics, and catalysts. In the 21^st century, advances in cloning and bioengineering technologies have made the production and study of biomaterials, a new frontier for the generation of substances with novel properties. We propose to create a Center of Novel Biomaterials at CUHK to provide a platform to bring scientists with expertise in creating new biomaterials with biologists with the expertise to apply these biomaterials to important problems.

Goals

To bring scientists from different departments to establish an interdisciplinary team at CUHK in the area of novel biomaterials
To develop new technologies to produce novel biomaterials
To explore the use of novel biomaterials in specific applications
