Undergraduate Programmes
Biochemistry has led to many new discoveries and techniques that have revolutionized the concept of life and the applications of biological principles. Our program is committed to contribute significantly in the generation of new knowledge and in training of our younger generations on these new and exciting developments, for the benefit of Hong Kong, China and the world.
In teaching, we have set three targets:
- To provide quality education on the basic concepts and mechanism of biochemical processes, with emphasis on clinical and biomedical sciences.
- To provide training on the latest biochemical technology and opportunity of independent research.
- To cultivate the ability of critical thinking, a proactive and responsible attitude and efficient communication skills for high competitiveness in further study and in the job market.

Biology is a broad field embracing many different disciplines which include the study of living organisms from virus to human. Fundamental to the study of life is unfolding biological organization at its many levels, from molecular architecture to ecosystem structure. Since1958, it has always been the goal of the program to promote the advancement of teaching and research in this multifaceted science and to contribute to our understanding of the events of life and improving the quality of life.
Our programmes of studies are designed with the aim of training our students to have fundamental and advanced knowledge of modern biological sciences. With our comprehensive curriculum and training encompassing a variety of fields in BioScience, our graduates develop their career in various aspects including teachers, principals and professors in the education sector local and abroad, and research, technical and administrative staff in tertiary institutions, the government and business sectors.

Biotechnology is reshaping how we treat disease, feed a growing population, and sustain the environment — and molecular biotechnology sits at its heart. Building on the molecular biology revolution of the late 20th century, the field now drives innovation across the biomedical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and bio-industrial sectors, where demand for skilled expertise continues to grow. Our programme prepares students for this landscape, combining hands-on laboratory training with the quantitative and bioinformatic skills that modern biotechnology increasingly requires.
The outcomes follow. More than 50% of our graduates go on to further study, including doctoral degrees at leading institutions worldwide, while others build strong careers in the biotechnology industry and public sector alike — ready to contribute to discoveries and products that matter.
