Young Scientist Mentorship And Research Training (SMART) Programme for First/Second Year Students 2025
Objectives
- To support early placement of promising students in a research environment
- To promote the interest of students in scientific research
Eligibility
- Confirmed major in BCHE or BIOL or Double Major BIO/CHM or CMBI or FNSC or MBTE
(Potential major students may also apply but need to submit confirmation of major once available)
AND - For Advanced Standing students:
Students who are admitted with 2A in two AL Science subjects; or point 5 in two IB (HL) Science subjects
OR
For 4-Year students (via DSE or other channels):
Overall GPA 3.50 or above (which must include LSCI1002, and two other Faculty Package courses applicable to Life Sciences)
Remarks: Students without results of LSCI1002 or two other Faculty Package courses by the time of application CAN also apply but they need to submit results once available. - Students who have not been accepted for SMART Programme previously.
Procedures
20 March – 25 April 2025 | Approach project supervisor for project details and submit application form with supervisor’s endorsement and supporting documents to Ms. Celia Poon, Room 132, Science Centre by 25 April 2025 (Fri). Note: Late applications will NOT be considered |
28-30 April 2025 | Receive confirmation from the School of Life Sciences |
Early – mid May 2025 (tbc) | Attend safety course(s) if required. |
June – August 2025 | Conduct research / training (must be completed before your third year of studies). Remuneration/stipend to students (max. $3,840 based on $64/hour) will be arranged after the training. |
